Dental school........?

I'm considering changing my major (master's program) from literacy in education to become a dentist. I've worked as a teacher for a few years, but deep down, I don't think it's me. I have this strange desire to become a dentist. Anyone go through the program? How rigorous is the program, and are there any good dental schools in NYC?
