Do guys wear a ring on his left hand ring finger and not for marriage reason?

I'm attracted to this guy whom i bump into once or twice a week in the mornings on the way to work. He notices me too and on a few occasions he tried to come closer to me me and i had this feeling he could be trying to catch my attention, however habitually i will avoid eye contact with someone i am checking out secretly so yeah, it could be my imagination. He wore a ring on his left ring finger all the time so i reckon he should be taken. Finally i muster the courage to look straight at him instead of looking down or afar when he turns towards me. Now i know he is checking me out as well. Should i even bother? Is it for sure the ring symbolises his marital status? Can any local guys shed a light if there are guys out there who wears one for other reasons? Maybe he is just checking out and nothing else..but i wonder if i should continue making eye contacts in hope that he will make a move some day, with the slightest hope that he is actually not married? what are the odds? if he is definitely married, then why do i bother at all, or even potentially go against my moral standards? Should i take a chance and let the situation unfolds or avoid it totally as it's gonna be a sure-lose situation? Thanks
