"Let Him Be The Man In Our Relationship" What does he mean by this?

My boyfriend and I have been having these small talks of marriage for a while now, we've been together 3 years. We both agreed that we should wait until we can fix a few issues we have, like communication, before we go that far. So we've been being a lot more open with each other and expressing ourselves freely with no arguing, I think it has helped. Well, one day we were talking more about marriage and he tells me that I need to start letting him be the man in our relationship and run things. I'm really not getting what he means because I am not dominating anything in our relationship now, he always gets a say so in everything we do often tries to tell me what I should do in certain situations, sometimes I don't follow what he says because I don't think it's the right thing for me though I do listen to him, I think that's what he means but I'm not sure. He hasn't really been able to explain what he means yet and said he'll just talk to me when he gets here tomorrow. What on earth does he mean by this??? Is he saying he wants to totally run the show while I just agree to everything he decides? I didn't think marriages worked like this. What do you think he means by this??? Married people are more than welcome to respond. I need some incite.
