Someone teach me about LIGHTBULBS?

I know the idea and concept about the incandescent and the fluorescent bulb, however I need to learn more practical and useful information about CFLs and LED bulbs that are hitting the market as incandescent replacements. I'd like to learn about why it's so hard to get a true warm color out of CFLs and why even the "soft white" CFLs doesn't match the exact color of incandescent bulbs. In other words, if I was new in the market and walked into your store and asked you to teach me all about them so I know what I need to buy, what would you say?
