Do you think man will ever make it to space?

Do you think man will ever make it to space/beyond our solar system /transstellar flight / be able to colonize new worlds / be able to have diplomatic contact with other, possibly alien species? Is there any way in human history we will ever do that? Or is it impossible? Is this the end, the "climax" of our civilization? Will human history begin and end on Earth and no where else?
