How is geographical coefficient calculated with basic salary?

Schlumberger pays coefficient allowance to their employees working in Iraq. Can anyone tell me how this is calculated? For example I was given a job with a basic salary of 2500 USD with a coefficient of 1.00. I don't know how to calculate this.
